If there is a widely popular and loved deity in India, it clearly is Ganesha. It is easy to watch his figure in parades and festivities as one among the loud and merry tumult of the participants. One of the stories which produces more fascination among all Hindus is the one of his birth. From the many existing stories, it is said that Ganesha was created by the loving hands of Parvati, the wife of Shiva, when he was in campaings of warfare. To the saldalwood and other odorous substances which Parvati usually used for her ablutions she breathed her own fragrant breath, and after she gave it shape Ganesha was born. As she realized there wasn't any guard at the doors of their house, she placed her son there and ordered him not to let anyone to pass inside. But as Shiva got back from the war, he found a young insolent who did not let him to get into his own house, so he decapitated him. In addition of falling into distress, Parvati took the form of Kali and threatened to destroy the three worlds. In order to placate and console her, Shiva would bestow her son the head of the first living being that passed by. And it was an elephant. Although on the other hand it is said that he would give him the head of the first baby that it wasn't in the arms of its mother, and in this case it was an elephant as well. So that, the Ganesha's birth legend is as fascinanting as his popularity. The weight of the statue is approximately 6 kilograms and it is made of brass, according to the North Inda's style.
